Reader Response # 6: Find a Poet

The poet I chose for this was Kenneth Carroll. I can relate to the poem "In the mornin" because everybody has a brother or a sister who messes with them or keeps them up at night. To me the poem was alright it had funny words in it but it was alright to me even though i really dont like peoms without a beat to them. I also like the poem "Ridin Shotgun". I like it better then the first one because the second one relates to my grandma askin me if i want to ride shotgun whenever she is going somewhere. But i dislike the fact that they referred to death in so many ways.with the cancer and the going blind and eyes gettin taking.

The song that I choose was Let me love you by Mario . Mario wants to show a girl that he is a better man than the one she goes with and he wants to treat her right but she doesnt know if she wants break up with her man for him or not. it's ok to me because it shows love and sacrifice . it's a nice song but I wouldn't buy the CD ever or keep it as a gift..

Huck Finn Reader Response#3(Ch14-Ch17)

“It was a mighty nice family and a mighty nice house too. I hadn’t seen a house out in the country before that was so nice and had so much style” (Ch 17 Pg 75 Pr 5)
What impressed Huck about the house was that it was out in the country and he had never been to a house in the country so nice. He said he like the style and the family was nice. Huck’s view on success and happiness is having a nice family that works together and gets along and a nice home for you and your family.

The books are special because they had either American history or poetry in all of them. Huck likes history and He was looking through some books and saw poetry about dead people that he thought was pretty good. Huck’s view on education is that he thinks it’s important and fascinating to learn about history. Mark twain also thinks that it is important to get and education and gain knowledge. Also Mark is a very educated man too.

“This girl used to keep a scrape book when she was a live and paste obituaries and accidents and cases of patience suffering in it out of the Presbyterian Observer”. (Ch17 Pg77 Pr2)
The poems and drawing in the scrapbook are unique because they are all representing death. The deceased girl would collect obituaries of random dead people and make a nice poem for them. And she would also collect thing that had a sign of suffering in it. The girl seems to be obsessed with death and suffering. Because it looks like one set of arms is reaching out to God the second set is hugging herself. And the third set is reaching out to someone. And it looks like she is bout to commit suicide. Mark twain wanted people to get a vivid image of the painting. This says that Mark’s view of death is sad. And his view of suicide is wanting to reach out to God for forgiveness but also wanting something in the world u probably can’t have and trying to love yourself. Because he felt sorry for her and he thought her poetry was good.

In the story of Huck Finn there is a moral in which Huck has to decide weather he will help Jim or rat him out. Huck’s conscious comes into play when Jim starts to talk about being free thanks to Huck. Huck starts to wonder if he is doing the right thing by helping him or should he tell on him. Huck then starts to think about the woman that own Jim and starts to ask him-self what did that woman ever do to me to make me take her property. Huck’s judgment begins to deteriorate and he has second thoughts.

I think Huck did the right thing when helped Jim. Even though Huck had second thoughts he still ended up helping Jim to avoid capture. Jim said that Huck was His best friend and Huck felt bad for thinking what he was thinking but he still felt bad for the lady that Jim belonged to. But in the end he decided to help Jim.

I came to this conclusion because no man deserves to be property of anyone except for himself. Also Huck said he felt awful about helping Jim but he would feel the same way if he turned Jim in. so he decided if I will feel the same way without turning him in why would I turn him in .He threw out all his intensions of turning him in and focus on getting to a free state.

By doing this he decides to help Jim flee to a free state. In the end he chooses what is ultimately what he thinks is the right thing to do. He could have let the three men capture Jim but instead he lied for Jim and saved him. Instead of feeling bad and losing Jim he would weather feel bad but not at the expense of losing a friend and feeling the same way.

This example of a moral dilemma is a good one because it shows friendship. Also it shows sacrifice and that slavery is wrong and that no matter whom you are you can have friends of different backgrounds who would put themselves on the line for you. And it should teach you a lesson about doing what’s right. This is what I absorbed from the moral dilemma.

Reader Response 1 Huck Finn (1-6)

Pap "Ain't you a sweet scented dandy, though? A bed and backcloths and a look'n glaze and a piece of carpet on the floor-And your own father got to sleep with the hogs in the tanyard I never see such a son.I bet I'll take some'o these frills out o'you before I'm done wit you .Why there ain't no end to your airs"(ch.5 p.15,par 6

Look at you trying to look all fancy with your bed and carpet and fancy clothes while I'm living with animals . I will never have a son smarter than me and have better clothes and a better home than I have. I'll take a lot of good things out of your life before I'm finished with you.

This quote means that his father was jealous of him and did not want him to succeed more than he was. Their relationship was very unsteady and his father is to lazy to fix up his life. He can't stand to see his own son do good so he takes it out on his son because his life is a mess.

Mark twain thinks that Huck Finn's father is good for nothing and is just Trying to control his son's life and make him miserable because that is how his father feels because his son is doing so well and he is stuck in his ways as a drunken old man. There relationship is disastrous and the father is very abusive. Mark twain may have Incorporated some of his own life into this book. Maybe Mark twain 's father was abusive or a drunken old man and he used part of the book to tell about his own life.
